Finnvid Funnen
9th century
Finnvid Funnen is the founding ancestor in Arnungatal, the genealogy of the family at Giske, written down in the 13th century. According to the legend he was found as an infant in an eagle's nest, wrapped in silk, and of his origins it says only: «Ingen kjenner ætta hans.» (No one knows his lineage.) The story is tradition, and it explains why the eagle recurs in the name elements -arin and -arn in the family.
