Jon Arnesson

c. 1033 to 1097

Jon Arnesson, c. 1033 to 1097, took the Arnlings north. He married Ranveig Sigurdsdatter of Tore Hund's family and with her got Bjarkøy, the great farm north of today's Harstad in Troms. The farm lay by the sailing route where furs, hides and in time stockfish from the north went south. Whether Ranveig's father was Tore Hund's son or brother, the sources disagree. Jon became the founding ancestor of the Bjarkøy family.

Son of Arne Arnesson from Giske. He married Ranveig Sigurdsdatter, of the family of the chieftain Tore Hund at Bjarkøy. With her he got Bjarkøy, the great farm north of today's Harstad in Troms, which lay by the sailing route where the spawning cod (skrei) and the goods from the north went south.
