Knut Alvsson confirms the meeting at Skara
SDHK 34163 · 25. januar 1500 · Skara, gråbrødreklosteret
Knut Alvsson, who held Giske after his father Alv Knutsson, issues this short letter himself. It confirms that he attended the division at Skara as the widower of Görvel Eriksdotter, and was probably meant to serve as proof later.
What the letter says
The knight Knut Alvsson of Giske confirms that he and the knights Erik Eriksson and Abraham Eriksson, Kristina Eriksdotter and Sigrid Eskilsdotter, widow of Sir Nils Eriksson, have been gathered in the Franciscan friary at Skara for a division of the inheritance after the participants' mother and aunt.
Background
Knut Alvsson (died 1502) was the son of Alv Knutsson and held Giske after his father. His first wife, Görvel Eriksdotter (Gyllenstierna), was the daughter of Sir Erik Eriksson and Lady Kristina of Fågelvik, and Kristina was the daughter of the Swedish king Karl Knutsson (Bonde), who also fought for the Norwegian throne in 1449. Görvel had died before 1495, which is why Knut took part in the division after his mother-in-law and her sister Magdalena. SDHK puts the word «syskon» (siblings) in quotation marks because Knut was the brother-in-law of the other heirs. The letter is short and was issued by Knut himself. It confirms that all the heirs met, and it was probably meant to serve as proof if anyone later disputed the division. The paper original is in the Krapperup archive in Scania, together with several of the other division letters.
