The heirs pay 60 English nobles

SDHK 34351 · 7. mars 1501 · Stockholm

Knut Alvsson, lord of Giske, was a joint heir with the Gyllenstierna family after his first wife Görvel died. The receipt shows that he also had to share in paying the debts that came with the inheritance.

What the letter says

The squire Otte Rud acknowledges at Stockholm on 7 March 1501 that on behalf of his father Jørgen Rud he has received full payment from Sir Erik Eriksson, Sir Knut Alvsson, knight, Abraham Eriksson, the king's official at Kalmar, and several others, for the 60 English nobles that Sir Ivar Axelsson inherited after Sir «Fyndh Agesson».

Background

Knut Alvsson, lord of Giske, was a joint heir with the Gyllenstierna family after his first wife Görvel Eriksdotter had died. The inheritance after King Karl's daughters, Kristina and Magdalena, was divided at Skara in January 1500. With the inheritance came its obligations. Ivar Axelsson (Tott), Magdalena's husband, had inherited 60 English nobles after Finn Åkesson, and the heirs now had to pay this sum to the Rud family. A noble was an English gold coin. There are several copies of the receipt (see SDHK 34352). That Abraham Eriksson was still King Hans's man at Kalmar shows that the break with the king had not yet come. Five months later Knut swore an alliance with the Sture party against the king.
