Receipt from Otto Rud to the heirs

SDHK 34352 · 7. mars 1501 · Stockholm

What the letter says

The squire Otto Rud confirms at Stockholm on 7 March 1501 that the knights Erik Eriksson and Knut Alvsson, Abraham Eriksson, King Hans's official at Kalmar, Lady Sigrid Eskilsdotter on behalf of Sir Nils Eriksson and Lady Kristina Eriksdotter, widow of Sir Hans Åkesson, have compensated him on behalf of his father Göran Rud. It concerns 60 English nobles that they were obliged to pay on behalf of Sir Ivar Axelsson, which he had inherited after Sir Finn Åkesson. On the back is written «Erich Erickson till Vinstorp».

Background

Knut Alvsson, lord of Giske, was a joint heir with the Gyllenstierna family after his first wife Görvel Eriksdotter had died. The inheritance after King Karl's daughters, Kristina and Magdalena, was divided at Skara in January 1500. With the inheritance came its obligations. Ivar Axelsson (Tott), Magdalena's husband, had inherited 60 English nobles after Finn Åkesson, and the heirs now had to pay this sum to the Rud family. A noble was an English gold coin. This is another copy of the same receipt as SDHK 34351. Here the father is called Göran, in the other Jörgen, two forms of the same name. The original is in the Krapperup archive, where several of the division letters from Skara are also kept.

People: Knut Alvsson
