What the letter says
In the Mint in Stockholm on 23 March 1501, Erik Eriksson of Fågelvik, Knut Alvsson (Tre Rosor) of Giske, Abraham Eriksson of Demstorp, Kerstin Eriksdotter, widow of Hans Åkesson, and Sigrid Eskilsdotter, widow of Sir Nils Eriksson, divide the inheritance after their mother Kristina Karlsdotter and aunt Magdalena Karlsdotter. Knut Alvsson receives Snavlunde mill in Ånsta parish in Örebro hundred and Tynninge in Kumla parish and hundred.
Background
Knut Alvsson, lord of Giske, was an heir of King Karl Knutsson's daughters through his first wife Görvel Eriksdotter (Gyllenstierna). The main division was made at Skara in January 1500 (SDHK 34162), and this letter from two months later shares out some further property. Knut received a mill and a farm in Närke. A mill gave income in the form of fees from the farmers who ground their grain there. The letter was written in the Mint, the coin workshop in Stockholm, probably because the heirs were gathered in the town that month (see SDHK 34351).
