Karl Knutsson is summoned over estates in Värmland
SDHK 37614 · 29. august 1514 · Södertälje
What the letter says
The regent Sten Sture the Younger summons Karl Knutsson (Tre Rosor) at Södertälje on 29 August 1514 to appear at the next meeting of the lords before the council. There he is to answer Johan Månsson (Natt och Dag) and his sister Lady Kristina, widow of Sigge Larsson (Sparre), concerning Våxnäs, Hanevall and Sanna, estates in Värmland.
Background
Karl Knutsson (died 1520) was the son of Knut Alvsson, who was killed in 1502, and after his father's death the estates were confiscated. Around 1515 Karl got the family estates back. This letter shows that he also held estates in Sweden that others laid claim to. Johan Månsson and his sister believed they had a right to three farms in Värmland. The case was to be decided by the Swedish Council of the Realm. The following year Karl and his brother Erik were summoned again in the same case (SDHK 37695).
