Karl and Erik Knutsson must produce evidence
SDHK 37695 · 18. februar 1515 · Vadstena
Karl and Erik Knutsson were sons of Knut Alvsson, and Karl recovered the family estate around 1515. Here the brothers must defend their right to three farms in Värmland before the Swedish council of the realm.
What the letter says
Sten Sture, regent of Sweden, and members of the Council of the Realm issue a letter at Vadstena on 18 February 1515. Johan Månsson and his sister Kristin bring a case against Karl Knutsson and Erik Knutsson (Tre Rosor) concerning Våxnäs in Tingvalla parish and two other farms, Hanevall in Segerstad parish and Sanna in Tingvalla parish, and they show letters for the properties. Karl and Erik are summoned to produce evidence for the estates at the next council meeting.
Background
Karl Knutsson (died 1520) was the son of Knut Alvsson, who was killed in 1502, and after his father's death the estates were confiscated. Around 1515 Karl got the family estates back. His brother Erik Knutsson was beheaded in the Stockholm Bloodbath in 1520. The case about Våxnäs and the two other farms in Värmland continued from the year before (SDHK 37614), and now Erik had been drawn in too. Both sides had letters they believed gave them the right, and the council wanted to see Karl's and Erik's evidence before it judged. The outcome does not appear in the record.
