The lawman of Bergen and a case with Lady Inger
SDHK 39877 · 11. april 1525 · uten sted
What the letter says
Guttorm Nilsson, probably lawman in Bergen, and the councillors Tord Matsson, Kristian «Jorborssøn», Jöns «hattessffaar», Olof Jonsson and «handers» Hansson announce that on 11 April 1525 they received instructions from the knight Vincent Lunge and Lady Ingegerd Ottesdatter, the survivors of Sir Nils Henriksson, «uti riddar Ture Jönssons ...». The rest of the text is missing, probably because a leaf has been lost.
Background
Lady Inger of Austrått was the widow of the councillor of the realm Nils Henriksson, who died in 1523, and Vincens Lunge was her son-in-law. Ture Jönsson (Tre Rosor) was guardian of Gjørvel Fadersdatter, granddaughter of Knut Alvsson, and Lady Inger and Ture stood against each other in the dispute over the Giske estate. The letter survives in a copy in the Swedish Kammararkivet's collection on the Tre Rosor family. The text breaks off before the case is explained. It probably concerned Ture Jönsson's claims on behalf of Gjørvel.
