Tora Torbergsdatter

c. 1025 to after 1066

Tora Torbergsdatter, c. 1025 to after 1066, was born on Giske and became the mother of the kings Magnus II and Olaf Kyrre with Harald Hardrada. Snorri and Morkinskinna call her queen. Store norske leksikon holds that she was probably a concubine (frille), a consort without marriage, because Harald was already married to Ellisiv of Kiev. The kings of the Fairhair dynasty after Olaf Kyrre counted themselves as her descendants, although the paternity of some of them is disputed, and it is her line that brings Giske into the line of kings.

Daughter of Torberg Arnesson at Giske. With King Harald Hardrada she became the mother of the kings Magnus II and Olaf Kyrre. Snorri and Morkinskinna call her queen. Store norske leksikon holds that she was probably a concubine (frille), a consort without marriage, because Harald was already married to Ellisiv of Kiev. All later kings of the Fairhair dynasty descend from her.
