Ragnhild (Astrid) Erlingsdatter

first half of the 11th century

Ragnhild, or Astrid, Erlingsdatter was the wife of Torberg Arnesson at Giske and mother of Tora, Jorunn, Øystein Orre and Ågmund. She was the daughter of Erling Skjalgsson at Sola near Stavanger and, according to the sagas, Astrid Tryggvesdatter, sister of King Olaf Tryggvason. The name is disputed: Snorri calls her Ragnhild, while the local history "Borgund og Giske" holds that her name was Astrid. The children at Giske thereby had the king's sister as their maternal grandmother.
