Karine Alvsdatter has the division deed after Junker Hans confirmed

DN 8/723 · 25 March 1534 · Hammer

The division after Junker Hans Sigurdsson gave Alv Knutsson the right to Giske. His daughter Karine Alvsdatter here has a copy of the division deed certified, probably to prove her right in the dispute with fru Inger.

What the letter says

Bishop Magnus of Hamar, the chapter there, the lawman Dyre Sevaldsson of the Uplands and the squire Mogens Trugilsson declare at Hamar on 25 March 1534 that Karine Alvsdatter asked them to inspect and read a deed of division. The letter was a vidimus from 1516 of the deed of division after Junker Hans Sigurdsson. They found it undamaged, with whole seals, and confirm with their seals that the copy reads word for word as the original.

The letter in modern English

We, the undersigned Magnus, by God's grace Bishop of Hamar, our honourable chapter in the same place, Dyre Sevaldsson, lawman of the Uplands, and Mogens Trugilsson, squire, with several other good men, were inside the Hamar residence on Lady Day of the Annunciation [25 March] in the year of the Lord 1534. We were asked by the honourable and well-born maiden Karine Alvsdatter to inspect, see and read a deed of division. We then saw, inspected and carefully read a parchment letter, without holes, unpierced and unscraped, with whole and undamaged hanging seals, which reads word for word as now follows here. [Here follows the deed of division after Junker Hans, as given in the vidimus of 1516. The text is printed under another DN number.] For further certainty and truth and greater security that this said vidimus reads word for word as written here, we testify with our seals, which hang below this letter, which was made at Hamar on Lady Day of the Annunciation, as above.

Background

Junker Hans Sigurdsson, son of the drottsete Sigurd Jonsson, died in 1466, and at the division after him in 1490 the Giske estate was shared between the heirs. It was this division that gave Alv Knutsson, Karine's father, the right to Giske. A vidimus is a certified copy, made by trustworthy men who have seen the original and testify that it is unfalsified. Karine probably needed several reliable copies of the deed of division to prove her right in the dispute with fru Inger, even though the Council of the Realm at Bud had awarded her Giske the year before. That the letter was without holes or scraping means that no one had tried to alter it.
