Background

The pension of 1655 thus passed from Erik Banner to Sten Hondorf, the king's treasurer, and was doubled with the same amount from the Strøm estate. Nils Trolle was governor-general of Norway from 1656. The letter was written a few months before Denmark declared war on Sweden in June 1657, and on the same page are letters about sending men from the fiefs in Norway to Copenhagen. The Giske estate was now a source of income the king could distribute as needed.
