Lindenov's part of the Giske estate is placed under Trondheim
NRR 2, s. 655 · 16. mars 1586 · Kronborg
What the letter says
At Kronborg on 16 March 1586 Arild Hvitfeldt is told that Sunnmøre fief, with which he had been enfeoffed, is to be placed back under the main fief. In the same way several feudal lords receive letters that their fiefs are to be placed under Trondheim fief: Senja, Helgeland, Salten, Vesterålen and Lofoten, Andenes, and «Giske Gods udi Throndhjems Len» (the Giske estate in Trondheim fief), which Hans Lindenov had held. Christen Friis is to take over the fiefs under the king's manor in Trondheim, appoint good bailiffs and keep accounts, because the king needs fish and other provisions for the fleet. The fish is to be delivered in Bergen and stored in the old bishop's manor.
The letter in modern English
[End of the letter to Arild Hvitfeldt about Sunnmøre fief:] [...] that it, like several other such small fiefs that have likewise been granted away, is to be placed back and taken in under the main fief. We graciously do not wish to keep this from you, so that you know the circumstances and do not take it otherwise, as if it had happened from any disfavour or displeasure of ours towards you. On another occasion we will graciously remember you in other ways, and we are well disposed to you with all favour and grace. Kronborg, 16 March 1586. In the same way these feudal lords received letters that their fiefs were to be placed under Trondheim fief: Senja: Kaspar Markdanner. Helgeland: Ludvig Munk. Salten fief: Captain Durham. For this he is to receive 200 daler from the Treasury. Vesterålen and Lofoten: Maurits Stygge. The Giske estate in Trondheim fief: Hans Lindenov. Andenes fief: Jørgen Svave. In the same way Tyge Brahe received a letter that his fief of Nordfjord was to be placed under Bergen fief, and the king will graciously let him have 300 daler from the Treasury for it. Christen Friis received a letter to take over the said fiefs under His Majesty's manor in Trondheim, since His Majesty greatly needs them for various supplies of fish and other such provisions, both for Holmen in Copenhagen, on His Majesty's warships and in other ways. He is to appoint good, loyal, dil

Background
The letter shows that in 1586 the king gathered many small fiefs in order to get fish and provisions straight to Holmen in Copenhagen and the navy. The Giske estate was divided: the part lying in Trondheim fief, probably the farms in Romsdal, was placed under Trondheim. On the same day Johan Svave received the farms in Romsdal, Sunnmøre and Voss for life. How the two letters fit together is unclear and needs further study. Romsdal belonged to Trondheim fief at this time.
