Arnmod

b. c. 930 to 940

Arnmod, born c. 930 to 940, gave his name to the family, which was called Arnmødlingar after him. According to Jomsvikinga saga he fought with his sons on Håkon jarl's side in the battle of Hjørungavåg on Sunnmøre in 986, and the skald Bjarne Kolbeinsson calls him «Arnmod jarl» around 1170. Snorri does not mention him. The battle is the first time the family appears in the stories of the kingdom's great battles.
